Athletic Performance Counseling in Twinsburg, Ohio

A colorful sunset over a calm lake, with silhouettes of trees and mountains in the background.

Your mental game matters.

Athletic performance isn't determined by physical ability alone. Confidence, focus, emotional regulation, motivation, and the ability to respond to pressure can all influence how you perform and how you experience your sport.

You may know you're capable of more but struggle to access that ability when it matters most. Maybe you're overthinking during competition, dealing with fear of failure, struggling to recover from mistakes, or putting so much pressure on yourself that the sport you once loved no longer feels enjoyable.

Therapy can provide a space to understand what's happening mentally and emotionally while developing skills that help you perform with greater confidence and consistency.

When Your Mind Gets in the Way

Athletes are often taught to push through discomfort, stay focused, and keep moving forward. Those qualities can be valuable, but constantly pushing through isn't always the answer.

You may be experiencing:

  • Performance anxiety or competition nerves
  • Fear of failure or making mistakes
  • Loss of confidence
  • Difficulty recovering after a poor performance
  • Perfectionism or unrealistic expectations
  • Overthinking during competition
  • Difficulty staying focused
  • Motivation that feels inconsistent
  • Pressure from coaches, teammates, parents, or yourself
  • Difficulty balancing athletics with school, work, or relationships
  • Loss of enjoyment or burnout
  • Challenges adjusting to injury, reduced playing time, or changes in your role

These experiences don't mean you're weak or incapable. They are opportunities to better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence your performance.

Confidence Is More Than Positive Thinking

Confidence isn't about convincing yourself that you'll always succeed. It's about developing trust in your ability to handle whatever happens.

Therapy can help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns, manage performance-related anxiety, develop greater emotional flexibility, and build a more consistent relationship with yourself as an athlete.

We'll work together to identify what gets in the way of performing at your best and develop strategies that you can carry with you into practices, competitions, and everyday life.

The Person Behind the Athlete

Athletics can become an important part of your identity. When performance isn't going well, it can sometimes feel like you're not doing well as a person, too.

Therapy provides an opportunity to explore the relationship between your athletic identity and the rest of your life. We can work on confidence, self-worth, relationships, motivation, stress, and the transitions that come with being an athlete.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and personalized to your goals. I draw from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care, incorporating performance-focused strategies when appropriate.

You are more than your performance.

Whether you're working toward a specific goal, navigating a difficult season, or simply wanting to feel more confident and present in your sport, therapy can help you develop the mental and emotional skills to move forward.
